Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission

Welcome to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission website. The TABC is responsible for the enforcement and regulation of all phases of the alcoholic beverage industry in the State of Tennessee. The TABC was created by the state legislature in 1963 to ensure the safety of the citizens of the State of Tennessee as that relates to the responsible sale and service of alcoholic beverages while maintaining balanced competition among licensees. In addition to the enforcement of all laws related to the liquor industry, the TABC has the authority to police the illegal manufacture, delivery, sale, and possession of marijuana and also, when requested, assists other local and state law enforcement agencies with investigations.

The executive director, a licensed attorney appointed by the commission members, is the chief administrator of the agency and is aided by an assistant director and a chief law enforcement officer. The commission employs 36 special law enforcement agents who are authorized to enforce the provisions of the alcoholic beverage statutes and certain criminal statutes, as well as those rules and regulations enacted by the commission.
