MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

After surgical removal of a skin tumor, if incision is needed to allow for formalin penetration and fixation, incise from the epidermal side rather than the subcutaneous side. This allows for the retention of any capsule that may be present. Incision from the subcutaneous side often results in retraction of the capsule.

An excellent and reliable IFA (indirect fluorescent antibody) test is available on abdominal or thoracic fluid for the diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis. The cost is currently $12.

The Laboratory Use Guide for the C.E. Kord Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory is available on the internet. The guide lists tests provided by the Laboratory, the needed tissue, the required sample size, etc. Submission forms can also be printed from this site. There is also a guide that lists the cost of each test.
