On October 20, 2008, Tennessee Wastewater Systems, Inc. filed a petition requesting an increase of $349,485 in revenues, which would result in a 43% rate increase and an 8% operating ratio. The Consumer Advocate and the utility agreed to a settlement that reduced the company’s request to $295,000, or 36%, a savings of approximately $163 per customer from the increase originally requested by the company. The Consumer Advocate was also successful in including several consumer protection provisions which sought to ease the implementation of the large increase to consumers. This settlement agreement was approved by order of the Authority on July 8, 2009.
