On January 30, 2009, TWS filed a petition requesting an increase of $150,902 in revenues, an approximately 70% increase. This was the company’s first rate increase in nearly 20 years. After preparing the matter for hearing, the Consumer Advocate and the utility agreed to a settlement that reduced the company’s request to $127,687, which will be phased-in over a 12 month period. This results in a 66.4% increase and a rate of return not to exceed 6.89%. The Consumer Advocate was also successful in including several consumer protection provisions which sought to ease the implementation of such a large increase to consumers. This settlement agreement was approved by order of the Authority on September 15, 2009.
