Mrs. Diane Cormell
(Southeast Tennessee – Rural)
Athens, TN
Term of Appointment: December 6, 2004 - September 30, 2010

Ms. Cormell graduated from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital’s School of Nursing and was employed as a Registered Nurse from 1964 until 2000 when she underwent bilateral knee replacement. She was caregiver to her terminally ill mother and since has become an advocate for the aging and disabled.

Ms. Cormell worked in home health during her mother’s terminal illness and was better able to help her patients’ families, although she was experiencing the same sort of difficulties as they were. Having the physical disabilities that she has, inspires her to do whatever she can to help others with disabilities live better lives. Ms. Cormell believes that it is everyone’s responsibility to help improve the quality of life for the elderly and for those who have a disability, not only with federal and state programs, but to learn what their needs and desires are, such as social functions in which persons with disabilities could participate that would make their lives happier. She is proud to serve as their advocate.
