Mary Stockley retired in 1987 from the State of Arkansas Employment Security Division, where she served as Employment Service & Unemployment Insurance Interviewer, Employer Relations Specialist, Human Resource Development Supervisor, Work Incentive Program Supervisor, and State On-the-Job Training Contract Specialist. Ms. Stockley's varied lifelong experiences, combined with leadership roles with AARP Tennessee, have prepared her to be a strong advocate for seniors and people with disabilities statewide and at the national level. She is involved with many community activities, including AARP Tennessee, where her term as State President recently ended; AARP National Health and Long Term Care Working Group, Washington, DC; Choices for Care, Regional Group, Memphis; Baptist Health Care Advisory Board, Memphis; the Aging Commission of the Mid-South, Advisory Council, Memphis; AARP Regional Impact Team, Memphis; and the St. George's Episcopal Church, Germantown, Tennessee.


Ms. Stockley has served for the last six years as state president of AARP Tennessee, which is the highest volunteer position in the 680,000-member organization. Her ten years of service with AARP ranges from organizing events and promulgating public statements to planning long-term organizational strategies and representing AARP in the media. Advances in creating real choices in long term care services and increased volunteer participation in AARP activities were the cornerstone of her tenure as AARP State President.


Ms. Stockley is a well-respected and active member of her community. In addition to leading AARP Tennessee, Ms. Stockley has served on the Aging Commission of the Mid-South and has been an advocate for senior citizens. Not only does Ms. Stockley understand the needs of the older population but she is capable of developing initiatives to address them as well. Ms. Stockley holds a Degree in Accounting from Draughons Business College in Memphis, TN. She is the widow of Henry Walker Stockley, Jr., and resides in Memphis.
