How to become a Licensed Contractor Header

STEP 8- LICENSE ISSUED

License Issued

The staff will process your license to be issued after approval at the Board meeting (the full Board convenes and votes to approve/deny license issuance for interviewed and waived applicants) after interviews are completed.

You will be mailed a license certificate which will have your license ID number, classification, expiration date (this is the same information required to be on the outside of a bid envelope!) and also your license monetary limit. You may check the status of the license issuance at:  License Search.

Renewal

Licenses are issued for two years. A renewal will be mailed to you 90 days prior to the expiration date. A license renewal may be denied if you fail to submit the required financial statement, insurance, or conviction of a felony.

Address Change

Please notify the board of any address changes, as state mail is not forwarded. It is considered a violation to change your address without notifying the board and you may be subject to civil penalties. The Board requires those with a P.O. Box to include a physical address.

License Revisions

Should you need to change your name or mode of operation, add a license classification or increase your monetary limit, you may do so by applying for a "Revision". Revisions must be approved by the Board at their regularly scheduled meetings, however, a personal interview is not required. More information may be obtained from the Revisions Forms website. Do not contract using the new revision information until you receive a revised license, confirming approval.

Qualifying Agent

If your qualifying agent leaves, you must notify the Board within 10 business days. A new Qualifying Agent must be in place within 90 days or the license classification assigned to the QA is invalid; if you have only one classification, the license itself would be invalid.

Change in Ownership/Bankruptcy

A new license application must be submitted whenever a change in ownership occurs or if there has been a reorganization due to bankruptcy, as the license becomes invalid.

Please continue to check the website for law changes!
