Land Surveyors
The mission of the Tennessee Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors is to serve the citizens of Tennessee by efficiently and effectively providing a fair, flexible, and positive regulatory environment for consumer service industries. Our goal is to assure that every licensee has met the minimum qualifications prior to being granted a license.
The Board has issued a new policy statement regarding the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles, or "drones," in the performance of surveying. You can review the new policy (Policy #10) under the "Rules and Laws" heading by clicking on "Policies."
Announcements
On April 4, 2024, Public Chapter 0650 was signed into law which made the following changes to the five (5) licensing pathways currently available:
- All progressive experience for all five (5) pathways is now under the direct supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
- Experience can now be accrued prior to taking the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FS) exam
- Professional Land Surveyor in Training (PLSIT) is now a prerequisite to licensure and all experience runs concurrently with and is accredited towards the total experience required for licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
- Decoupled both the Principles and Practice of Land Surveying (PS) and the Tennessee State Jurisdictional exams from experience
- Board-approved coursework in the surveying sciences was increased to eighteen (18) hours for the experience and GED pathway
