Not a Your Regular 9-5 Job

A wildlife officer’s office will look much different than what a normal nine-to-five office space might look. Our officer’s workspace may consist of the cab of a truck, the rack of an ATV, or the deck of a patrol boat, depending on the day’s assignment and the season.

A wildlife officer on Friday morning may be conducting a public program teaching kids about wildlife and conservation and that same evening be patrolling a local reservoir enforcing boating safety laws and looking to remove impaired operators.

The necessity for our officers to be able to work from various platforms such as ATVs, Jon Boats, large patrol boats, 4x4 trucks, and on foot requires that they possess a unique skill set and the ability to adapt to ever-changing environments and demands.

Our officers perform law enforcement and public safety duties off the pavement. They are tasked with patrolling, forests, fields, lakes, streams, rivers, and mountainous terrain requiring that they be in good physical condition and can traverse this terrain and work in these environments safely and effectively.
