Good Afternoon. I'm George
Little, your new Commissioner of Correction. It's
great to be back with the department and I'm out here at
Tennessee Prison for Women to talk a little bit about the
Year of the Correctional Employee.
I've been in and around correction for
20 years and some of my proudest and greatest moments, both
personally and professionally, have been with the Tennessee
Department of Correction. So it's a privilege to come
back and serve with you as a part of the team.
As I come back into the department, I
recognize that we have many of the challenges today that
we've faced over the past 20 years. Challenges of
providing safe and secure facilities, challenges of meeting
the kinds of work requirements that we have from day to day
and still keeping morale high.
I know that our greatest resource is
our people and that with the kind of staff that we have we
can meet challenges of ever increasing inmate populations,
developing programs or just getting through from day to day.
As commissioner, I know that we have
to bring new facilities online and we will. As
commissioner, I know we have programs to develop, to expand
and to maintain so that the men and women who come to us in
the department hopefully won't come back.
Ultimately, my vision is that we'd be
so successful that we'd work our way out of a job but I
don't think we have to worry about that anytime real soon.
In the meantime, I simply want us to
be the very best correctional agency in the entire United
States and to be recognized and compensated as such.
So let's have fun, let's work hard and
know that I'm here with you as part of our correctional
team. Again, thanks for all of your good, hard work.
