NORTHEAST CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX INMATE WALKS AWAY FROM WORK CREW

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. - Internal Affairs Agents with the Tennessee Department of Correction are looking for an inmate that walked away from a work crew assigned to Warriors' Path State Park in Kingsport this morning.  James Daniel Bird, a minimum custody inmate, was part of an inmate work crew assigned to the Northeast Correctional Complex minimum-security annex site located in Carter County (formerly known as the Carter County Work Camp.)

The correctional officer assigned to the work crew reported Bird missing at approximately 9:50 a.m. EST after the inmate fled the work site.  TDOC Internal Affairs, with assistance from Warriors' Path State Park Rangers and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, initiated an immediate search for the escapee.

Bird was serving a 15 year, 6 month maximum sentence for theft of property and forgery convictions out of Sullivan County.  He was eligible to meet the parole board in February 2006.

Bird is a 25-year-old white male with green eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He is 5'11" tall and weighs approximately 150 lbs.  He has a tribal tattoo on his left shoulder and Chinese writing tattoo on his right shoulder.
