NORTHEAST CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX INMATE WALKS AWAY
FROM WORK CREW
ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. - Internal Affairs Agents
with the Tennessee Department of Correction are looking for an inmate
that walked away from a work crew assigned to Warriors' Path State Park
in Kingsport this morning. James Daniel Bird, a minimum custody
inmate, was part of an inmate work crew assigned to the Northeast
Correctional Complex minimum-security annex site located in Carter
County (formerly known as the Carter County Work Camp.)
The correctional officer assigned to the work crew
reported Bird missing at approximately 9:50 a.m. EST after the inmate
fled the work site. TDOC Internal Affairs, with assistance from
Warriors' Path State Park Rangers and the Sullivan County Sheriff's
Department, initiated an immediate search for the escapee.
Bird was serving a 15 year, 6 month maximum sentence for
theft of property and forgery convictions out of Sullivan County.
He was eligible to meet the parole board in February 2006.
Bird is a 25-year-old white male with green eyes, brown
hair and a medium complexion. He is 5'11" tall and weighs
approximately 150 lbs. He has a tribal tattoo on his left shoulder
and Chinese writing tattoo on his right shoulder.
