CORRECTIONAL PROFESSIONALS WEEK
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - No one said it was an easy
job. This week, the Tennessee Department of Correction is proud to
honor the more than 5,000 men and women who work in Tennessee's state
prisons.
With positions ranging from security to health care
specialists, correctional professionals play a crucial role in
protecting the safety of the citizens of Tennessee by maintaining
custody and control of over 19,000 inmates.
"As Commissioner, I would like to take this
opportunity to commend our many fine professionals for their outstanding
service on behalf of the citizens of Tennessee," said Tennessee
Department of Correction Commissioner George M. Little. "Few
folks realize how challenging and rewarding our work is, and this week
and every week, we want to lift up the sacrifice and dedication of all
our employees."
Correctional Professionals across the state are also
remembering Correctional Officer Wayne Morgan, who was killed in the
line of duty nine months ago. Commissioner Little added, "I
would particularly like to remember CO Morgan and those who have given
their lives in this service." CO Morgan gave 28 years of
service to the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex and the State of
Tennessee.
Activities are planned throughout the Department of
Correction this week in honor of Tennessee's Correctional Professionals.
