TDOC PREPARES INMATES FOR RELEASE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It is estimated that
97-percent of all inmates currently incarcerated in Tennessee Department
of Correction facilities will be released back into society at some
point.
That's why TDOC is proud to announce a new transition
program aimed at preparing inmates for their release. "This
effort to improve public safety will mean lower recidivism rates which
equal fewer victims and improved public safety," said TDOC
Assistant Commissioner Jim Cosby.
The 86-bed transition program called Genesis, consists
of three phases to help participants obtain everything from substance
abuse treatment, victim impact awareness, GED courses and job
readiness. Eligible participants must be within 9-12 months of
possible release and from the Davidson County area.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Genesis program will
take place Friday, November 3, 2006 at 9 a.m. at the Charles Bass
Correctional Complex, Site 2, in West Nashville.
