TDOC ANNOUNCES SPECIAL HIRING EVENT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - No one said it was an easy job, but it is one of the most important services our state provides.  The Tennessee Department of Correction will hold a special hiring event this week for people interested in becoming correctional officers.

Commissioner George M. Little said, "It is a difficult, but rewarding job.  I greatly appreciate the men and women who take on that challenge.  While Governor Bredesen has improved employee pay this year, we are looking to raise the base salary for correctional officers in the future.  We will work to seek additional increases for all correctional staff.  Not everyone is cut out for corrections, but those who are can realize great opportunities for advancement, make a difference in people's lives and help protect the public."

This week's special hiring event will be held August 12, 2006 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution at 7475 Cockrill Bend Boulevard in West Nashville.  For an appointment, call (615) 350-3100, extension 3114.  Candidates must be 18 or older, a U.S. citizens with valid drivers license, a high school diploma or GED is required, and no felony or domestic violence convictions.  On site application, testing and interviews will be held.
