COMMISSIONER APPOINTS NEW WARDENS FOR BRUSHY
MOUNTAIN CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Department of
Correction Commissioner George Little today announced the appointment of
two veteran managers to serve as wardens at the Brushy Mountain
Correctional Complex Site 1 and 2.
Effective March 1, David Mills will return to Morgan
County to serve as warden of the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex
Site 2 in Wartburg and will also manage the Morgan County expansion
team. Mills is transferring back to Brushy Mountain after serving
nearly three years as warden at West Tennessee State Penitentiary.
In addition, Acting Warden Jim Worthington has been
appointed warden of the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex Site 1, and
will also oversee the future decommission team of this historic prison
site.
"Warden Mills and Worthington possess the
leadership skills that this challenging facility requires to carry out
the day to day activities, including a major expansion project,"
said Little. "I know that the staff and the community alike
will offer their full support to these managers as they assume their new
roles."
Mills has been employed with the department since 1975,
when he started his career as a correctional officer at the former Fort
Pillow Prison and Farm. He has served in a number of leadership
roles over the past thirty years, including warden of Turney Center
Industrial Prison from 1995-1997 and Brushy Mountain Correctional
Complex from 1997-2003. Since June 2003, he has been the warden at
West Tennessee State Penitentiary in Henning, Tennessee.
Worthington is a 24-year employee of the Tennessee
Department of Correction. He started his career in March 1981 as a
correctional officer at the Morgan County Regional Correctional
Facility. Worthington worked his way up through the ranks from
corporal to unit manager at Brushy Mountain, including a brief stint as
associate warden at the Knoxville Community Service Center before the
site closed. He was named Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex's
deputy warden in 2001, and has served as acting warden since August
2005.
