TDOC HELPS STORM VICTIMS
CLIFTON, Tenn. - Several Tennessee counties
devastated by this week's storms are receiving help from the Department
of Correction. The Wayne County Boot Camp has sent dozens of
inmates to assist with the cleanup in Wayne and Hardin counties.
Inmates are working with local officials to remove downed trees and
debris from roads and public areas.
"The department shares in the sense of loss and
grief that alL citizens of this state have felt this week," said
Commissioner George Little. "Staff and inmates will continue
to help these devastated communities rise from destruction."
Warden Wayne Brandon of the Wayne County Boot Camp said
the community is pulling together tremendously. "The inmates
believe in the work they're doing and feel this is a chance for them to
give back." The day after the storm, several people trying to
deliver food to a local community center could not get through until
inmates arrived to clear the roadway. "We feel a
responsibility to help our community get back on its feet and we're
happy to do so," said Brandon.
