Inmate Mail

The Tennessee Department of Correction houses more than 19,000 inmates at 16 facilities.  To send mail to an inmate, you will need to know the inmate's name, TOMIS ID number, and name and address of the facility where the inmate is being housed.

To get this information, simply follow the steps listed below:

Step 1

If you do not already know the inmate's TOMIS ID number and/or the name of the facility, click on the "FOIL - Inmate Search" link located above.  You will need the inmate's name and possibly a date of birth, if it is a common name.

Step 2

Once you have found the correct inmate, you will need to write down the TOMIS ID number.  Click on "location" to get the name of the facility.

Examples:

BMCX - Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex
MTCX - Middle Tennessee Correctional Complex

Step 3

Click on the "State Prisons" link located on the left to find the address for the facility.

Step 4

Address the envelope with the inmate's name and TOMIS identification number at the top.

Example:

Inmate Name/ID Number
Name of Facility
Address of Facility
