Volunteer Programs

Volunteers make important contributions to the quality of life for the people who live at CBDC. On-going programs, such as the “Adopt a Friend Program,” provide volunteers an opportunity to develop meaningful one-on-one friendships with specific individuals, getting to know their interests, likes and dislikes. Other programs offer volunteers the chance to participate in periodic service projects. Christmas, Easter, Valentines, Halloween, and July 4th parties given by church and civic groups are a regular feature on the Clover Bottom campus.

Local colleges and high schools also arrange occasions for students to participate. One local college conducts religious services weekly during the school year and organizes sporting events for the Harold Jordan Center community. On one occasion an area high school brought members of its state championship football team to a campus event.

Nashville being known as “Music City,” it is not surprising that musicians will volunteer to share their talents, often through connections with CBDC’s own musical therapy team. The monthly Outdoor Music Celebration, during the spring and summer months, is attended by individuals from all over campus.

Volunteers also help by donating items for the periodic CBDC garage sales, with proceeds going into the special fund for residents.

Who are these volunteers? People from churches, schools, colleges, and clubs for sure, but a surprising number of people are Clover Bottom retirees who miss assisting the residents and participating in activities. It is an encouraging sign that retirees want to come back and help. It is a positive statement on the facility and most of all about the residents.

The Volunteer Program is staffed, coordinated and vigorously promoted by Ms. Marti Cook. Ms. Cook can be contacted at 615-731-5508.
