Employee Reassignment

Notice: Read This First

Only full time career, executive, and initial probationary service employees of the State of Tennessee who have received an official reduction in force notice that their position is being abolished or that they may be adversely affected by the State’s reduction in force bumping and retreating process are eligible to participate in the State’s "Employee Reassignment Process." If you are NOT adversely affected by a reduction in force in the Executive Branch of Tennessee State government, you are NOT ELIGIBLE and should click on "Career Service Home" for additional employment consideration.

Thank you.

IMPORTANT: The "Employee Reassignment Process Implementation Plan" is the guide for this process. Please read carefully.

Adversely affected employees will have the opportunity to participate in the reassignment process. Full-time appointments in the career or executive service as well as employees who are serving their initial probationary period are eligible. Interim, emergency, part-time and 120-day retiree employees are not eligible to participate in the reassignment process.

Adversely affected employees may apply for up to five (5) job classifications that appear on the "Career Service Vacancies". This list is subject to change due to hiring and turnover and, therefore, will be updated twice monthly.

An adversely affected employee wanting to participate must send a completed "Request for Reassignment" form and a completed "State of Tennessee Employment Application" form to DOHR in order to be considered. An employee will not be allowed to submit more than one set of forms nor apply for more than five (5) job classifications.

If an adversely affected employee does not meet the minimum qualifications for a job class, he will not have an opportunity to go back and select a new job classification. Therefore, it is important the employee go to "View Class Specifications" listed above to review the minimum qualifications before selecting a job classification.

The Request for Reassignment and State of Tennessee Employment Application may be submitted by any means available to the affected employee. Preferred submittal methods include sending via

  • facsimile to 615-532-0728,
  • by email to DOHR.ReassignmentOffice@state.tn.us,
  • by mail to DOHR Reassignment Office, Department of Human Resources, 505 Deaderick Street, 1st Floor, Nashville, TN 37243, or
  • by hand delivery.

For an application to be considered valid, DOHR must receive both forms on the same date.

Employees who meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) will be considered qualified and their information placed on the MQ list for a job classification. Employees will remain on this list and be available for consideration by all agencies until the end of their 90-day notice period.

If the employee has not been reassigned at the end of the 90-day notice period, the employee’s name will be removed from the minimum qualifications list and the employee will be laid off.

To obtain specific information regarding any of these vacant positions, contact the departmental human resources office at Agency Human Resources Offices.
