Preparation for Buyers

What should procurement representatives do to prepare for the matchmaking experience?

1. Create a Buyer Profile at Tennessee Business Matchmaking Website

The online profile will provide information such as: the Matchmaking event(s) you will attend, what products and services you expect to purchase; highlight any vendor requirements, such as application forms, payment requirements or other specific information on doing business with your company.  The NAICS codes you provide to us will be the basis for the “matchmaking” we do with sellers.  It is also very helpful if you provide information about your company’s vendor requirements and any restrictions that might affect the sellers.  The more information you provide to us during registration, the more likely the sellers who come to your table are good matches and well prepared.

Once you have completed the online buyer profile, you will be registered for the Business Matchmaking event.  Note that sellers will be able to access your online profile.  Once you have created your online profile, you will receive periodic information about upcoming business matchmaking event(s).

2. Schedule Your Appointments

Within one to three weeks of the scheduled Business Matchmaking event, the Matchmaking Administrator (Wisty Pender) will notify you via email to go to the Matchmaking website and schedule your appointments.  Once you log into your profile, you will learn which sellers you “matched” with (they are selling what you are buying).  Sellers can schedule meetings with you, if they “matched” with you.  Each seller also has the ability to schedule meetings with no more than 3 non-matching buyers.   You will also have the ability to schedule meetings yourself and you will be able to decline appointments, if you wish.  You will be able to view all of the participating sellers’ profiles online.  You will be able to finalize your appointment schedule weeks before the event occurs.  This will allow you time to research the sellers you have appointments with, complete documentation and prepare questions.

3. Attend Business Matchmaking

Be sure to arrive early.  Look for the registration area.  During registration, you will receive a conference packet and a tote bag.  You will then be asked to print out your appointment schedule at the Computer Kiosk.

4. Change Your Appointment Schedule the Day of the Event using the Computer Kiosk

Buyers and sellers may access their appointment schedules through the Matchmaking Computer Kiosk.  The computer kiosk replaces last year’s on-site matchmaking table.  You will be able to cancel appointments and print your appointment schedule throughout the day.  Help will be provided to those needing assistance.
