Community Resource Integration

The occupational advisory committee itself is a major resource for vocational education. It may also serve as a coordinator for identifying other available community resources to aid the instructional process. A community resource is any person, place, organization, or item that has instructional value.

An occupational advisory committee could:

  • Locate potential training stations for the cooperative vocational education program;
  • Locate appropriate local businesses, industries, and other employers for student tours;
  • Identify persons in the community to serve as guest instructors
  • Identify other community resources that can be used by the vocational education program to improve instruction; and
  • Help arrange in-service teacher training clinics or workshops
