Committee Outlines
General Advisory Committee
- Qualifications
- A committee member should possess knowledge
and work experience of the total work community, demonstrate a willingness
to serve and be aware of the vocational philosophy of that district.
It should include people from business, industry, management, organized
labor; educational administrators, parents, and students.
- Selection
- Member nominations should come from teachers, business and industry
leaders, craft committees, organized labor, and the general public.
Final appointment should rest with the local school board and/or administrator.
- Number of Members
- The size of the committee should be determined by local needs, size of
school system and the size of the vocational education program. It is
suggested that the range be from a minimum of twelve (12) to a maximum
of fifteen (15).
- Term of Membership
- Systematic replacement should be established with every consideration
given to staggered terms and varying appointment durations. It is suggested
that the length of appointment range from one (1) to three (3) years.
Craft or Occupational Committee
- Qualifications
- A member should possess knowledge and work experience
in a particular field, demonstrate a willingness to serve and be aware
of the vocational philosophy of the program to be served.
- Selection
- The specific teacher may take nominations from students, employers
or organized labor and should make the final decision in cooperation
with the local vocational administrators. The letter of appointment
should come from the local director, superintendent or school board.
- Number of Members
- Ultimately, the committee size should be determined by program objectives
and needs. It is suggested that the range be from a minimum of six
(6) and a maximum of eight (8).
