Policies & Procedures
A set of policies
and procedures should be developed locally. Policies should include
only those provisions necessary and relevant to local needs and to operational
efficiency.
- Officers
- The officers should be elected by
the committee from the committee membership. A chariman and secretary
are two essential officers but others may be elected. These people will
be assuming additional responsibilities and will need to be able to devote
extra time to committee work.
- Number of Meetings
- The number
of meetings should be determined locally. The number of meetings decided
upon should be influenced by the need and size of programs and the level
of committee experience regarding vocational education program planning
and evaluation. It is recommended that there be at least (4) meetings
per year with additional meetings scheduled as necessary. A craft committee
may find it necessary to meet more often than the general committee.
- Agenda
- Meetings should be scheduled at a
time of day that is consistent with the day to day schedules of the group's
members. Every meeting should be organized around an agenda of items that
are pertinent and timely to the group's purposes and goals.
- Minutes
- Minutes should
be kept by the committee secretary and distributed to the membership.
The minutes may also be available to the local Board of Education.
- Committee Activities
- The general
committee may wish to divide its membership into committees to do the
ground work and make recommendations to the total membership. The need
and function of such committees would vary with the activities undertaken.
- Committee Report
- The committee
should submit a brief annual report to the Board of Education. The reports
should provide an overview of the committee's activities and include
recommendations regarding the vocational education program.
- Funding
- Responsibility
for expenditures of the committee should be the responsibility of the
local school system.
