Presentation Title: High Impact / Rapid Response Practices to Raise Student Achievement
A consortium funded by the US DOE recently completed a series of evaluations on schools that had been
having difficulties with adequate yearly progress (AYP). All of the schools are now meeting increased
standards of AYP with all student sub-groups, including students with disabilities. The goal of the evaluations
was to identify any common practices in curriculum, instruction, and/or assessment that immediately
contributed to those schools meeting AYP. Those strategies are being called “high impact, rapid response
practices”, meaning that the strategies not only worked, but worked quickly in bringing the schools into
adequate yearly progress for all students. These practices have been shown to be effective for all students,
and they are especially critical for at-risk learners. This presentation will assist administrators and teacher
leaders in understanding and implementing these practices in their schools.
