Emergency Preparedness

line

"Emergency Preparedness" is the first element of a comprehensive school safety plan.  The goal of emergency preparedness is to minimize damage to life and property, and to quickly reestablish learning environments.  Below are training opportunities and other resources related to Emergency Preparedness offered by the School Safety Center.

Arrow Earthquake Preparedness:

What should I do during an earthquake?

Earthquakes can happen at any time with little to no warning. In fact, portions of West Tennessee lie along the New Madrid fault line. Preparing for this unique type of emergency can help save precious lives. For more information on how your district can prepare for an earthquake click here.

Arrow Pandemic Flu Preparedness

An influenza (flu) pandemic is a global outbreak of disease that occurs when a new flu virus appears that can spread easily from person to person. Because people have not been exposed to this new virus before, they have little or no immunity to the virus; therefore serious illness or death is more likely to result than during seasonal flu.  For more information on the Pandemic Flu and ways that your district can prepare for such an outbreak click here.

Arrow School Emergency Supplies and "Go Kits"

Every school, before and after care center, and day care center should store emergency supplies in preparation for either an evacuation or an emergency that requires students and staff to shelter in place. The safety team should select supplies that address the needs of the specific school, its population, climate, facilities, and resources. Because emergency supplies are so important, the school safety plan should reference both the supplies to be stockpiled and staff role responsible for stocking and replenishing.  For more information on emergency supplies and "go kits" see the link and information below:
