Alternative Licenses
An Alternative/Transitional License is not a full teaching license. It is issued at the request of the superintendent/director of schools of a Tennessee school district to an individual who is employed while still completing specific licensure requirements. The license is issued for one school year at a time and always expires on August 31 following the academic school year for which it is issued.
Transitional licenses become effective during the 2009-2010 school year.
These license types became effective July 1, 2007, however are no longer available for issuance. Available for renewal only.
- Alternative License Type I (Renewal Only)
- Alternative License Type II (Renewal Only)
The following license type is no longer available for initial issuance. It is available for renewal only.
Alternative License Type A (Speech Language Pathologists Only)
The following license types are available for advancement to full license only
