Special Services

The Tennessee Department of Education, along with districts and schools across the state, arranges for educational opportunities for various groups of students.

The Division of Special Education promotes educational services and programs for children with special education needs. Visit the division’s website for information about eligibility, legal services and a directory of special education supervisors in each school district.

English Learners may receive specialized instruction through classes in each district. Tennessee serves students from more than 35 language groups and 50 foreign countries.

Tennessee Homeless Education Program enrolls homeless children and youth in schools and provides needed services to ensure their attendance, education and success.

Tennessee Migrant Education Program assists children of seasonally employed migratory agricultural workers since their education has often been disrupted by repeated moves.
