Operator Certification and Renewal

  • Tennessee offers 14 types of Operator Certification
  • Each Certified Operator possesses:
    • certain experience requirements
    • a high school education or equivalent, and
    • a score of 70% or higher on a certification examination
  • Each certificate is renewed annually
  • Completion of the required number of continuing education hours every three years is required to maintain certification

Fee Increase - July 1,  2017

Beginning July 1, 2017, the annual fees for operator certification renewal are as follows:

  • Discount annual renewal fee for each operator certificate:
    • (Payment prior to February 1)……………………………………..……………………$50
  • Standard annual renewal fee for each operator certificate:
    • (Payment from February 1 through June 30.)…...………...………………………….$100

2017 Certification Exam Dates:

  • May 4th and 5th, 2017​
    • Application Deadline: March 4th, 2017
  • November 2nd and 3rd, 2017
    • Application Deadline: September 2nd, 2017
  • The Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Board is now offering computer-based certification examinations
  • Paper and pencil examinations will be offered only in Murfreesboro
  • Computer based testing has an additional cost
