On the Road to Continued Growth

Chattanooga Times - Chattanooga Free Press -- 12/19/99

The Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant (VAAP) was featured in a December 12 article in the Chattanooga Times - Chattanooga Free Press. The article focused on a host of positive developments in Chattanooga including progress in securing land from VAAP for the city and county. The article also noted that a major new office building (the first in 15 years)was being constructed; nearly $250 million in new projects and over 1,200 jobs were brought to the are through the community's economic development office; the highest value ever for building permits issued in a year; and American Eagle airlines is returning to the Chattanooga market.

The article reported on the tour of the VAAP site by city and Hamilton County officials, Rep. Zach Wamp, congressional staff, and General Services Administration officials. During the tour, the group discussed the potential for the city and county to purchase the property and the promise it holds as a valuable resource to attract new industry and jobs as well as greenspace and woodlands.
