The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM), will conduct a public hearing September 21, 2017 to receive comments on its tentative decision to issue a solid waste disposal facility major modification to Upper Cumberland Solid Waste Management. This major modification will result in a total of 17 acres of disposal area through a vertical expansion of the existing landfill.
The facility, identified as Upper Cumberland Landfill (SNL140000250), is located in Clay County at 776 Terry Odle Road, Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee (latitude 36°33'88" N/ longitude -85°42'26" W).
The hearing will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in the Courtroom at the Government Complex (Community Center) at 145 Cordell Hull Drive, Celina, TN 38551. From 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT, citizens are invited to inspect and discuss the permit application, draft permit, fact sheet, plans, and other materials with the DSWM and with representatives of the applicant. There will be an opportunity for public comments to be recorded or written and submitted during this informational session as well. The formal hearing will begin at 6:00 p.m. The DSWM will explain its tentative decision to issue the permit, after which the applicant's representative will describe the proposed facility. DSWM will then receive oral comments on the draft permit from the public.
