BRIDGESTONE FIRESTONE WARREN PLANT RECOGNIZED
FOR ITS ENVIRONMENTAL SUCCESSES

OFFICIALS CELEBRATE TENNESSEE POLLUTION PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP (TP3) ACHIEVEMENT

Morrison, Tenn. - Governor Phil Bredesen and Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke participated in a recognition ceremony at the Warren County plant of Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT) today in which the plant was honored for achieving Performer Level status in the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership (TP3) environmental leadership program.

In a ceremony held at the Warren County facility, Bredesen and Fyke presented a framed certificate of recognition and a green Performer flag to representatives of the company, including Bridgestone Americas CEO Mark Emkes and Warren County Plant Manager Ron Brooks.

Fyke emphasized the significance of this achievement. BFNT Warren County is one of only six industries in the state to achieve Performer status, joining Delta Faucet, two Denso facilities, Saturn and Tennessee Koyo Steering Systems.

"This is a great achievement for both Bridgestone Firestone Warren County and its employees," Fyke said. "As a company, BFNT is committed to looking for opportunities to eliminate and reduce waste, save natural resources and prevent pollution. Its Warren County plant must certainly be a leader in this company-wide commitment and its team members deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their accomplishments."

To achieve Performer status, TP3 program participants are required to develop and complete a five-project plan to help prevent pollution of air, land, and water, while reducing waste and conserving natural resources.

"We are honored to receive this award, which is strong evidence of our ongoing commitment to constantly improving the environment and our community," said Brooks. "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teammates to build world-class products while at the same time putting a strong focus on sound environmental stewardship."

BFNT Warren County documented seven environmental success stories to achieve its Performer status, demonstrating measurable results in pollution prevention. Notable results included the elimination of chlorinated solvents in maintenance cleaning, an 8% reduction in plant electricity usage, a 92% reduction in hazardous air pollutant emissions, significant reductions in the amount of process waste and scrap material and cement waste produced by the plant, installation of a wastewater treatment system that allows the plant to use recycled water for cleaning, and the development of a native wildlife habitat area on 660 acres adjoining the plant. The Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership is a statewide network of households, schools, government agencies, organizations, businesses and industries working together to prevent pollution. The Tennessee Pollution Prevention Roundtable, with assistance from the Department of Environment and Conservation, developed the guidelines for the industry portion of TP3.
