Cumberland Trail State Park Receives Vehicle Donation
Off-road vehicle will help rangers respond to potential emergenciesCrossville, Tenn. – Cumberland Trail State Park applied for and received a Polaris Ranger 6X6 vehicle donation to be used to help park rangers respond to potential emergencies and rescues along the Cumberland Trail. The vehicle will be officially presented to park personnel in a ceremony at Cumberland Mountain State Park on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 12:00 noon CDT.
Cumberland Trail State Park submitted an application for the vehicle donation to U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company as part of the company’s Operation Ranger program, which awards off-road vehicles to emergency responders nationwide. The park was one of 60 applicants chosen by the company to receive a vehicle from among more than 3,500 submissions. The vehicle will be stationed in Crossville, and will be available for use by other Tennessee State Parks as well.
“Cumberland Trail State Park contains some of the most beautiful, ecologically diverse and rugged land in Tennessee,” said Park Ranger Joey Carlton. “We’re thankful that the trail allows people to visit and appreciate these wonderful outdoor places, and we appreciate this donation because it will help us respond even more effectively to people who may need help.”
The Cumberland Trail is Tennessee’s only linear state park. One hundred fifty miles of the trail are open and ready for exploration. When it is complete, the Cumberland Trail will traverse approximately 300 miles through 11 counties along Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau.
