| For immediate release May 26, 2006 MEEMAN-SHELBY FOREST STATE PARK ANNOUNCES OPEN
HOUSE Millington, Tenn. – Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park will host an open house June 2-4, 2006 to provide information about the Tennessee State Parks system as well as hands-on activities and programs for the entire family. In addition to being able to speak with state park employees about their jobs, facilities and operations, the weekend will feature pontoon boat rides, guided hikes, and programs about a variety of plants and creatures from birds to reptiles. There will also be demonstrations, crafts and displays from community vendors. Many of the weekend’s events are free, while some have a $1 per person fee with reservations recommended. Bordering the Mississippi River, two-thirds of Meeman-Shelby State Park’s 13,467 acres is bottomland hardwood forests of large oak, cypress and tupelo. The park also contains two lakes with fishing and boating and many miles of hiking trails. Camping and cabins are available as well as picnic facilities and swimming. ###
