TENNESSEE STATE PARKS READY FOR BUSY SUMMER SEASON
USAWEEKEND’S TRAVEL SMART CALLS STATE PARKS A GREAT IDEA FOR 2006

Nashville, Tenn. - This summer Tennessee State Parks is offering a wide range of nearby natural, cultural and recreational opportunities so families can maximize fun and togetherness while avoiding the cost of long distance travel.

“Park rangers and staff are preparing our trails, campgrounds, inns and cabins as we expect one of the busiest summer seasons in years,” said Environment and Commissioner Jim Fyke. “State Parks have always offered outstanding natural beauty and outdoor recreation for our citizens and visitors, but this year families will be able to stretch their travel dollar farther by enjoying our good nature that is so close to home.”

USAWeekend’s May 14 “Travel Smart” lists state parks as one of five great ideas for fun in the sun without busting the family budget. “Our national parks may get all the glory, but every state has a roster of often-unheralded state parks with compelling attractions,” noted travel expert Everett Potter.

Tennessee State Parks rank second only to Florida in overall state park visitation for the southeastern United States and offer some of the most popular outdoor locations in the region. Softball, nature hikes, cave trips, canoe floats, campfires, horseback riding and good bluegrass music are just some of the interpretive and recreational events visitors will find at locations such from Sycamore Shoals to Fall Creek Falls to Chickasaw.

Summer also brings the return of Tennessee State Parks’ family oriented interpretative programs offered daily through our Seasonal Interpretive Ranger program. From hands-on learning experiences with native plants and wildlife to exploring the unique traditions and history of Tennessee, these special summer programs engage visitors of all ages. Each park posts a weekly schedule of park programs available for guests.
