TENNESSEE USED OIL PROGRAM SUPPORTS LOCAL EVENTS

EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS AND EVENT SUPPORT HELPS KEEP WATERWAYS CLEANER

Nashville, Tenn. – The Department of Environment and Conservation’s Used Oil Program will participate in two upcoming events sponsored by American Bass Anglers at Paris Landing State Park to help educate anglers about the importance of used oil recycling in keeping waterways cleaner.

The American Bass Anglers National Championship will be Oct. 1-6 and the Salute to the 101st Airborne, a charity tournament, will be held on Oct. 14. Both events will take place on Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tenn.

“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to educate anglers about the importance of recycling used oil,” said Paula Larson, Used Oil Program coordinator. “Keeping our waterways clean should be a top priority for anglers – not only tournament anglers, but all those who enjoy Tennessee’s abundant natural resources.”

The Used Oil Program will provide each participant with educational materials and oil-absorbent pads to be used for any oil or fuel drips or spills in their boats. The drip pads are specific for use with oil and fuel products to absorb the fluids and prevent them from contaminating the water.

Paris Landing State Park is a one of 67 marinas certified under TVA’s Clean Marina Program, which certifies its compliance with specific pollution-control standards. As a Clean Marina, Paris Landing provides a used oil collection tank that will also be utilized by event participants.

“If everyone does their part, we can keep our waterways clean for the enjoyment of Tennessee residents and visitors alike,” Larson said.
