FIRST LADY ANDREA CONTE TO VISIT TRAIL OF TEARS SITES IN VAN BUREN COUNTY

Spencer, Tenn. – First Lady Andrea Conte will join local leaders and the Van Buren County Historical Society on a visit to three Trail of Tears sites in Van Buren County and to walk part of the Trail on Tuesday, October 2.  The group will visit the John Fleming Farm, the Pleasant Hill Cemetery and Rocky River Crossing, which was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.   Each site represents a significant location along the Trail of Tears.

Awareness walk along the Trail of Tears

WHEN:

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007
9:30 a.m. – Fleming Farm Historical Marker
9:50 a.m. – Drive to Pleasant Hill Cemetery
10:10 a.m. – Walk to Rocky River Crossing

WHERE:

Starting location: Fleming Farm Marker on Hwy. 111 in Van Buren County

DIRECTIONS: From I-40, take Hwy. 111 South through Spencer. Proceed south past Hwy. 284/Baker Mountain Road for approximately three miles to Fleming Farm Marker.
