The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in cooperation with the National Park Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed several Tennessee State Parks in the 1930s: Cove Lake, Big Ridge, Harrison Bay, Pickwick Landing, Booker T. Washington, Paris Landing and Norris Dam. Located on the Norris Reservoir, Norris Dam began in 1933 as the first Tennessee Valley Authority project. Pictured here is a view of the 18th Century Rice's Grist Mill at Norris Dam.

This lodge at Norris Dam has a beautiful view of the lake from the dining terrace. The park was developed in a rustic style native to the surrounding territory, and used materials from local resources such as timber and stone.
Pickwick Landing was a riverboat stop dating from the 1840s. In the 1930s during the depression, the site was chosen for one of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s dams on the Tennessee River. The State of Tennessee purchased all 681 acres of Pickwick from TVA in 1969.
Picnic shelters at Pickwick Landing were a favorite destination for get-togethers.

Harrison Bay was a popular destination for camping and is still a haven for campers, boaters, and fisherman, as well as picnickers and other day-use visitors from Chattanooga and the surrounding area.
