State Parks Dear Runner,
This year there are three new courses, a 7.6 miles trail run, a 10K, and a half-marathon. Two new races have been added and one race moved to a different State Park. There are now 18 races included in the Running Tour beginning with Two Lakes Trail Run in Montgomery Bell State Park, Burns, on October 13. The other new race is Pioneer 10K in Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park, Limestone, on December 15. Frostbite Half-marathon will be held in Cedars of Lebanon State Park, Lebanon, on February 16, 2008. A new award category in the Grand Prix competition has been added, where race volunteers will get one point for working (race directors are not eligible). The top ten volunteers will receive an award at the Tour Banquet following the last race on March 1, 2008. Good running and thank you for your support. Tomas de Paulis, |
Welcome
to Tennessee State Parks Running Tour. This is the 29th year of this
annual event. The Running Tour was originally started because in the
70’s there were no road races during wintertime. Nowadays, there
are races every weekend all year long. With support from the Parks
people, who provide traffic control and a place to hold registration
and award ceremony, and with help from the local running clubs, who
provide timing and post-race snacks, the Running Tour is a low-cost
($5), old fashioned alternative to the other events. By participating
in at least 5 races, the accumulated Grand Prix points are rewarded
with a special gift at the end of the Tour. In addition, the Running
Tour is a unique opportunity to visit our beautiful State Parks and
participate in a challenging race that will keep you in good shape
for the rest of the year.
