  Solid Waste Program

The solid waste program, implemented in 1971 and amended in 1990, regulates processing, transfer, and disposal facilities in Tennessee. Tennesseans generate some 15 million tons of solid waste each year. Solid waste includes everything from household garbage and construction debris to industrial waste and sewage sludge. The program objective is to promote waste minimization and reuse, while ensuring safe and effective handling and disposal.
