PIGEON RIVER WATERSHED
| The Pigeon River flows through western Cocke County and drains 153 square miles before flowing into the French Broad River. The watershed contains part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee National Forest. Proximity to Knoxville, Tennessee and the rivers undeveloped landscape contribute to the Pigeon Rivers popular appeal for boating and fishing. |

The Pigeon River was named for the passenger pigeon. Now extinct, the passenger pigeon was one of East Tennessees most common birds.
