SEQUATCHIE RIVER WATERSHED

The Sequatchie River watershed includes parts of Bledsoe, Cumberland, Grundy, Marion and Sequatchie Counties and drains 592 square miles before emptying into Guntersville Reservoir (Tennessee River). Cattle raising is common, as is furniture manufacturing. Boating, fishing and hunting are popular outdoor activities.

The Sequatchie River gets its name from the Cherokee word "Si Gwesti," meaning a hog feeding place. Many people feel the long, deep valley resembles a hog trough.
