Free Locations

State-owned buildings and land are available to filmmakers free of charge. For example, the former Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville has been used without a location fee for numerous projects, including "Walk the Line," “The Last Castle,” “The Green Mile,” “Last Dance” and HBO's “Against the Wall.”

Other fee-free location possibilities include the State Capitol, all state parks – including Fall Creek Falls, which features the nation's highest waterfall east of the Mississippi, and the swamps of Reelfoot Lake and Meeman-Shelby Forest, just to name a few.

When making a request to shoot on State Property please allow 2 weeks for paper work to be processed through the proper channels. All requests are approved or denied by the Department Commissioner. Locations are not to be considered “nailed down” until the contract has been signed by governing parties.
