RUTHERFORD WOMAN ARRESTED FOR TENNCARE FRAUD

ACCUSED OF PRESCRIPTION FRAUD

NASHVILLE, TN – A Rutherford County woman is accused of TennCare fraud for allegedly obtaining a prescription painkiller with a forged prescription, and paying for it with her TennCare card.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) today announced the arrest of 24-year-old Brittany Chambers of Smyrna. An arrest warrant alleges Chambers presented a forged prescription for the painkiller Lortab at a Nashville pharmacy using her TennCare benefits to pay for it.

“Prescription drug fraud is a significant burden on the TennCare program,” Inspector General Deborah Y. Faulkner said. “The Office of Inspector General is committed to weeding out TennCare fraud, especially those cases involving prescription drugs.”

The TennCare fraud charge is a Class E felony that carries a penalty of up to two years in prison. Chambers’ bond is set at $10,000. District Attorney General Torry Johnson is prosecuting.
