Data Administration

The overall objective of Data Administration is to enhance the understanding and management of the State’s data resources. Data Administration is responsible for developing and maintaining the State's data management standards and procedures, as well as establishing the guidelines and methods to facilitate data sharing.

Data Administration personnel support the data analysis activities of application development projects. Assistance is given to the process of identifying the business data requirements and documenting those requirements. The level of assistance can vary from actual inclusion on the development team to participation as a reviewer of the documented results. Data Administration is responsible for the review and approval of all logical data model designs developed for use by the State.

Data Administration establishes the architecture and guidelines for managing the State’s metadata resources related to data and its use. Data Administration ensures the State's data resource documentation includes the identification of the physical data sources, the corresponding business descriptions of those sources, the data models, and Data Administration is responsible for developing and maintaining an inventory of the application systems, data sources and data sharing activities of the State departments.
