Welcome to the Tennessee Records and Information Listserv
The Purpose?
To provide an open forum for state, county, and municipal providers of public information as well as those in the private sector who are
interested in records and information topics within Tennessee. This list is for the discussion of records and related issues.
What topics should be discussed? The following is a potential list. It is not inclusive.
- records related issues
- when is a record of permanent value
- experience with a particular technology such as scanning documents
- electronic publishing of records
- how to conduct an electronic records inventory
- etc.
 
Other related items:
- Announcements of new records related laws
- rules and regulations regarding records in Tennessee
- new or changes in technologies
- changes in standards
- conferences, seminars, and training schedules
 
Guidelines:
Acceptable tone/content for postings:
- For genealogical research please see TSLA
- Postings of a commercial nature are prohibited
- no politics or religious discussions
- no requests by students to help in research unrelated to the purpose of this listserv
- no "flames" of any kind (flames are emotionally charged statements)
- no spams.
- Subject line. Include a subject in each posting.
- Who are you? At the end of your message, include your name, email address and institution.
- No blatant marketing. Information about new products or major innovations are acceptable.
- ABSOLUTELY NO ATTACHMENTS!!!
(Attachments spread viruses as well as take up unnecessary space on the server.)
- No chain letters or similar correspondence.
Which address do I use?
Use listserv@listserv.state.tn.us for commands only (i.e. subscribe, set, signoff, etc.)
Use tnrecords@listserv.state.tn.us to send email messages to the listserv.
How to join the list:
You may subscribe to the TN Records listserv by typing listserv@listserv.state.tn.us in the TO: line of your email.
In the text portion of the email, type:
subscribe tnrecords your name (example: subscribe tnrecords Jane Doe)
You will receive an email confirmation. This is to confirm that the email address you are using is valid.
You must reply OK to be officially subscribed. Once you have received your confirmation, you will receive a list of instructions via email and a statement that says you've
been added to the TNRECORDS mailing list.
To send messages: You need subscribe only once!
SENDING MESSAGES
To send a message to the TN Records Listserv, type the following in the To: line
TNRECORDS@listserv.STATE.TN.US
Remember, when you send an email to TNRECORDS@listserv.STATE.TN.US you are sending the email to everyone who has subscribed
to the list

Replying to the list:
If you wish to ask a question or make a comment to the entire subscriber list, use the reply key on your email system.
If you wish to reply to an individual, you must type or copy that individuals email address into the TO: line.

VACATION or Extended Absence:
If you are going on vacation or will not have access to your email system for an extended period, you should set your subscription to nomail.
set tnrecords nomail

Returning from Vacation of Absence:
set tnrecords mail

Unsubscribing/Signing Off Listserv
If you wish to leave the listserv, type signoff tnrecords in the text portion of the email.
