FLEET MANAGEMENT
The fleet management section, under the direction of the assistant director, is responsible for the
management of all units.
This section prepares policies and procedures for Motor Vehicle Management, participates in the
preparation of the operating budget, focusing on utilization. It also monitors all facets of the life span
of vehicles and equipment from procurement to disposal.
FLEET SUPPORT
With a fleet of over 7,000 units, Motor Vehicle Management's fleet support team has the responsiblility of maintaining the unit in top working condition throughout it's life span. Utilizing both the Department of Transportation's
garages and an independent vendor listing of over 3,400 vendors, the fleet support section handles hundreds
of phone calls monthly in directing operators to various locations for preventive maintenance,
minor and major repairs, replacement of tires, or requested modifications of the unit
to meet the agency's demands. In case of emergencies, someone is on duty to assist operators twenty-four (24)
hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
This section continually monitors fuel usage of the units and scheduled preventive maintenance to
ensure that they are performed in a timely manner. Monthly mileage reports are kept for each unit along
with vendor correspondence.
