Presort Unit
|
In 1980, State Postal Services began presorting the states
mail through a presort bureau. In 1989, State Postal Services purchased
its first high-speed sorting equipment and began sorting the states
mail in-house. All equipment in the Presort Unit is state of the
art with computerized optics that can read the complete address
on a letter, match it to the U.S. Postal Services data base, spray
the appropriate barcode and sort it to the correct sort pocket
at speeds of up to 10 pieces per second. With the aid of this equipment,
State Postal Services processes over 100,000 letters per day. By
using this process and combining all of the states mail into
one continuous mailstream, the State of Tennessee is able to take
advantage of postage discounts offered by the U.S. Postal Service.
If you would like more information on postage discounts and how
to achieve them for your agency, please give us a call. Keep in
mind, that automation compatibility is the most important factor
in the discount program, so call us in the design stages of your
mailing.
