The Interior Design team is responsible for office space planning, interior design, and relocation coordination for all non-institutional facilities. Typically starting from new or recently vacated office space, the design team creates floor plans showing the location of hard-wall offices, cubicles, restrooms, break rooms, etc. In close consultation with the requesting agency, and with the landlord if applicable, the team creatively uses the space available to meet the needs of the agency based on the space needs analysis preformed in the planning stage.
Facility planners and designers may provide full in-house design services or supervise the work of private sector contract design companies. Work levels generally run about 1,000,000 square feet of space per year.
The team also coordinates the furniture refurbishment program. In using refurbished open-office furniture, the annual cost saving to the state is approximately $1,000,000.
