Proclamations are issued to recognize a day, week, or month for Tennessee non-profit organizations with preferably statewide, but at least regional interest. All proclamations require an in-state sponsor and are only available to nonprofit organizations. City or county-wide proclamations can be issued by city or county officials.
Proclamations are provided by the Governor's office as a courtesy to Tennessee residents. These public service documents are strictly honorary and are not legally binding.
Requests will be accepted no more than 6 months in advance and no less than 21 business days before providing the proclamation. The proclamation will not be issued more than 3 months in advance of the event.
All proclamation requests must be in writing. Please note that the Governor's office reserves the right to decline any request for a proclamation.

For example, if "Crime Watch Day" is proclaimed on January 1, then "Crime Watch Week " or "Crime Watch Month" will not be proclaimed later in the year. Tennessee organizations are encouraged to coordinate their efforts with other similar groups before contacting the Governor's office. Organizations are encouraged to request proclamations that coincide with national or state- designated dates.
Requests that are similar to previously issued proclamations will be declined. For example, if "Square Dance Week" was proclaimed in January and a request for "Square & Folk Dance Month" is received later, the request would be declined. A copy of the "Square Dance Week" proclamation could be provided instead.
Proclamations are not issued for conferences, birthdays, retirements, weddings, or anniversaries.
Any language submitted for the proclamation may be edited or rewritten.
Due to the cost involved in writing and printing proclamations, a maximum of 5 originals will be sent per year, per constituent.
