Candida auris

Candida auris is an emerging fungus that presents a serious global health threat. C. auris causes severe illness in hospitalized patients in several countries, including the U.S.  C. auris cases are a result of inadvertent introduction into the U.S. from a patient who recently received healthcare in a country where C. auris has been reported or a result of local spread after such an introduction.

Click here for US and world maps illustrating clinical cases. Facilities should speciate all Candida from all body-sites if a patient has been exposed to healthcare in affected country in preceding 18 months.

If you have suspected/potential case of C. auris, notify the TN HAI team on (615) 741-7247 and send isolates of C. auris (including rule-out C. auris) to the TN State Public Health Lab.  Click here for additional information on C. auris.
